Curious about Agave Oil? What is the difference between Agave Oil, coconut oil and argan oil? Read the science behind our plant-based hair oil and why stylists LOVE it.
1. Agave sugar is Nature’s powerful moisture miracle for plants — and hair.
If the first thing you think of when you hear Agave is “SUGAR”, you’re exactly right! (There’s a reason it’s used for tequila and natural sweetener!) To protect against harsh desert climates, succulents and desert plants such as Agave (and its cousin, Aloe Vera) produce a special sugar to maximize every bit of moisture they can. During intense heat, dryness and drought, this unique, highly nutritious sugar keeps the plant visibly strong and hydrated, even during periods of little or no rainfall. Agave plants utilize this amazing natural sugar not to only survive in the desert, but to actually flourish and thrive there. Simple, elegant, nourishing, and strong. (Hint: These are the same qualities captured by our own Agave hair oil and other products.)
Our organic Blue Weber Agave plants are grown in Mexico, then sustainably harvested for the powerful Agave sugar inside. The extracts from those sugars provide the same healing and protection for your hair that they do for Agave plants in the desert. They magnify moisture and lock it in, by coating each hair cuticle, and strengthening it. This essentially heals the breakage and damage of brittle ends, making hair stronger and more beautiful — just like the Agave plant itself. We use this pure Agave oil in our formulas for our hair oil, our healing mask, shine sprays, other healing hair products. No matter what hair type or condition, Agave Oil makes hair visibly stronger, shinier and healthier, because of the natural re-enforcement from the Agave extracts. So throw a whole desert’s worth of heat and dryness at your Agave Oil-treated hair — moisture and health still wins.
2. Agave oil is plant-based, so it’s ultra-light and super powerful.
Science is showing us more and more how plant-based products and diets are incredibly healthy. And this is equally true with hair oils. When people hear oil, they think “greasy.” But Agave Oil is plant-based, which means zero greasiness. Because Agave oil is derived from plants, it is much lighter, softer and more absorbent. Plant-based oil is better for hair, and the secret to non-greasy, frizz-free, conditioning moisture.
So what about the other hair oils out there? Well, most other hair oils on the market are derived from seeds and nuts. For example, argan oil and coconut oil are derived from the “nut” of the tree they come from. Nut-based oils are much greasier, heavier, and do not absorb as easily. Heavy oils are better used for cooking and baking. (Ever used a recipe that called for olive oil, peanut oil, sesame oil, or coconut oil? That’s because they’re great for food, but way too heavy to be used in hair.)
Plant-based oil gives all the conditioning benefits of a healthy oil, but is far more absorbent and nutritious. Agave Oil is specifically filled with nutrients and extracts that are nature’s own way of protecting a desert plant’s moisture in a hot climate. It conditions and protects hair, so it can handle heat, styling, color and chemicals. You can keep expressing yourself, while keeping your hair healthy and gorgeous! Believe us — plant-based oil is magical.
3. Agave oil naturally supports all hair types and styles.
It’s true. Agave Oil is a miracle product for all hair types. Because Agave Oil moisture is both gently and powerfully fortifying on a molecular level, it provides plenty of natural heat and styling protection. Instead of weighing down hair, Agave conditions and enhances. Stylists love working with Agave Oil, because it complements their work. Colored or processed hair can get dull and dry, but Agave Oil conditions and restores to its most beautiful potential — healthy and strong. Thick hair? Thin hair? Dry hair? Damaged hair? Long hair? Short hair? Permed hair? Natural hair? Agave Oil nourishes them all. We even have a styling tool that infuses hair with Agave nutrients while you use it.
